Crows Nest Station – Source: Sydney Metro

The new proposed station will provide a drive for more use of public transport, allowing the community another alternative to getting around Greater Sydney.

The station will provide a modern, fast, safe and reliable link from Rouse Hill, through Chatswood, Crows Nest, North Sydney, under the Harbour, through new CBD stations and southwest to Bankstown.

Benefits of the amended proposal to housing in the area

The Crows Nest over station development will also provide an affordable housing contribution of 5% of the residential gross floor area to be managed by a Community Housing Provider (CHP) for a period of 10 years (or a monetary contribution of equivalent value to a CHP to provide affordable housing in the local area).

Resident Feedback has also forced amendments to the original proposal resulting in alleviating concerns by implementing the following:

  • 20 per cent reduction in the overall size of the building envelope.
  • reduced building height.
  • reduced overshadowing of public places, including Ernest Place.
  • changes in proposed land use to increase employment opportunities and reduce new residential dwellings.

Benefits of the new Crows Nest Station include:

  • Easy access to employment hubs in the Sydney CBD, North Sydney, Barangaroo and Macquarie Park.
  • A new underground metro station.
  • new kiss-and-ride and taxi bays.
  • public domain works including footpaths, street trees, lighting and street furniture.
  • New on-road marked cycle link.
  • new bike parking.

Buildings proposed to be developed by unrelated private parties have had their original submissions amended to now be:

  • 21 storey commercial office building down from the original 27 stories.
  • 17 storey residential building amended from hotel/tourist accommodation or commercial office building.
  • 9 storey commercial office building upgraded from the original 8 storey proposal.

The Community feedback process has led to significant improvements including more funding for open space, revised building heights and densities, and improved protection of key public spaces and heritage areas.
